Varicose Vein Treatments at the Perth Vein Clinic
Varicose vein treatments are discussed after your ultrasound and clinical assessment by Dr Luke Matar. Often bulging veins at the surface are caused by malfunctioning valves in larger “feeder” veins underneath. The ultrasound will give you a clear diagnosis, and will be the starting point to discuss your treatment options.
At The Vein Clinic, Dr Luke Matar offers a wide range of treatments, including minimally invasive procedures such as endovenous laser, medical adhesive closure, foam sclerotherapy and Ambulatory Phlebectomy (guided by ultrasound) as well as some other non-surgical treatment options.
Why non-surgical varicose vein treatments?
The varicose vein treatments with a lower downtime, performed at our state-of-the-art vein clinic in Subiaco, are based on the latest research and are now recognised as the new standard, by the international community of vein experts. These non-surgical treatment options include:
Laser for veins: Endovenous Laser Ablation or EVLA, using a laser fibre in the affected, incompetent vein. The laser heat affects the lining of the vein wall, and the vein is then resorbed by the body.
Glue treatment for veins: Venaseal or Venablock medical glue is used to make the vein lining collapse and stick together.
Standard sclerotherapy: A liquid sclerosant is injected into a vein so the cells lining the wall of the vein start to die. The body absorbs the vein over time (the vein is shrunken and no longer visible as a bulging vein).
Foam sclerotherapy: Instead of a liquid sclerosant, foam is used, for an improved contact with the vein wall, creating improved results.
Ambulatory phlebectomy: This minimally invasive (surgical) treatment can often be combined with one of the above non-surgical treatments, for optimised results.

Varicose vein treatments - What to expect?
When you enquire for a vein treatment, Dr Matar will scan your legs himself, to verify any results you may have obtained from a sonographer.
Providing an accurate diagnosis is essential to make recommendations for your treatment options.
Then Dr Matar will make sure you fully understand each treatment procedure, the expected amount of sessions, and the results which can be expected with this specific treatment.
Dr Luke Matar and The Vein Clinic Perth
Dr Luke Matar has experienced varicose veins as a patient himself, and has witnessed his father and sisters suffer from venous incompetence as well. This has led to a deep commitment, to providing excellence in non-surgical vein treatments. Dr Matar’s philosophy is to offer “world class treatments”, to patients in Perth, so they can avoid the disabling consequences of venous reflux or venous dysfunction. Another focus at The Vein Clinic is to always minimise your downtime, so you can keep planning your everyday activities.
